Tucked away near the Squamish adventure centre is a small wildlife haven. Local volunteers give their time to ensure this trail is kept clear and tidy for walkers, runners and wildlife lovers alike. It is a beautiful short walk for your next trip to the centre, located so close to the sea to sky highway it is hard to believe how much wildlife lives within the foliage.

Being so close to the highway I didn’t expect a lot of birdlife as from my experience with some short walks in Whistler, they prefer to be further away from all the tourists. This trail was definitely an exception there were bird calls in all directions, their songs were taking over the area. We managed to find some birds I haven’t been lucky enough to spot since arriving in Canada.
The track is an easy and accessible afternoon delight. The volunteers have gravelled a large section of the path making it comfortable to walk and even run on. As you moved through you can feel the amount of life that lives within this part of Squamish.

This is area is home to some wetlands that are vital breeding grounds for frogs within the area so please make sure to stay on the trail and avoid trampling over the plants and wetlands along the way. Due to these wetlands being in close proximity to the walk remember to wear bug spray as mosquitoes won’t be too far away.
If you Encounter a Bear on the Nature Trail
Even though this walk is a simple afternoon dawdle in nature, the life is in an abundance. There is a huge variety of plants, trees and wildlife, with a lot of sweet and juicy berries located throughout the area, and do you know who loves succulent berries? Bears.

Never think you won’t encounter a bear on any walks within British Columbia, the province of BC is home to around 120,000 – 160,000 bears which is around 1/4 of the Canadas entire bear population. That is 1 bear per 6km²!
